Bamboo Project Underway!!
Rob Pfeiffer Blog on 3/10/2016
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Your contributions outstripped my wildest hopes and I have just ordered 500 seedlings. An extra big shout out to the Comeaus, Sharon Mann, Kit Pfeiffer, and Pete Pfeiffer – you came through big time! I am so excited to be able to do something besides say “You shouldn’t be—-” and shaking a verbal finger at the behavior around here. Survival mode is not always pretty. Looking down the road to the future and the futures of our children is difficult to do when there is no food or fuel for supper. To ask a family to take care of a seedling which may give them their fuel for years to come seems reasonable. Remember, this is the community where we sent home 175 seedlings with the children at Christmas break and upon the reopening of school, 225 healthy seedlings reappeared in the morning mist. We are all farmers out here in the hill country. We are presently empowering our community committee to choose “super farmers” and we plan to charge a nominal fee for each seedling. That way, people associate value with the presentation and invest more energy in the preservation. We shall see. The rainy season seems to be winding down (I know. I have said this before!) and we have had no rain in three or four days and most of the mud is dried up. But, we have three weeks of March, which is usually wet before the real dry part of the year kicks in; for nine months. Fortunately, bamboo can thrive on gray water and everyone has some of that each day.
